Child Safety

All too often in the media, you hear of accidents in child care, child safety issues, abuse of children by care providers, online or cyber bullying, children-oriented mishaps, drug abuse by teens, Learner plates totaling their cars, dementia patients lost and confused, and home intrusions. Our private lives seem to be placed in ever-increasing danger! Isn’t it time we draw the line? Let’s be more vigilant and start taking control of our world!

Families face incredible challenges to provide quality aged care, child care, and child safety whilst working and running their households.

The Child Safety blog is an offshoot from SuperParents specifically looking at child safety issues across the board. SuperParents suports families trying to achieve the best home safety, child safety, and quality of life for their dependants. Based in Perth, Western Australia, SuperParents Perth Family and Parenting Online Community was started October 2009 by Colin Wee, 5th Dan Traditional Taekwondo.

Child safety is what I worry about most. Since becoming a parent, all my other personal fears have fallen to the wayside. My personal well being is not so important after all, I take care of myself adequately. But if anything happens to my children, I’m not sure if I can cope with the emotional consequences. Therefore, my children’s well being and safety come first. Mine is secondary and important only to ensure someone is there to take care of them.

Having lived in places where crime and awareness of danger is fairly high, having practiced and instructed martial arts for over 25 years, I put a significant amount of effort to ensure I take care of child safety issues for the family. This covers everything from safety and alarm equipment, locking doors, and to swimming pool safety.

This blog is to cover all aspects of child safety for parents and caregivers of young children. I’m sure that parents the world over will all have the right intention and will have a level of child safety appropriate for their comfort zone. Issues that I’ll discuss however will make child safety efforts more efficient and effective. This is in no way a blog to make parents paranoid about assailants in dark alleyways. It is a healthy approach to making child safety a natural part of your life.

Child safety is the number one nightmare for any parent. And why shouldn't it be? Children get themselves hurt and in trouble ALL THE TIME. This is not to say that parents should be over-protective helicopter parents. But we should ensure that there is a good level of care to ensure child safety for our kids.

Child safety articles on this blog will cover general aspects of child safety and kids safety. We will discuss things such as child car seats, child safety gate, home safety at night, child safety products and internet safety. Boring safety stuff, but often searched for on the net, which means the good news is that Australian parents are quietly concerned about child safety information.
