Parents should talk to their children about traffic safety from an early age. A good time to do this is at the start of a car journey or whenever an example of bad or good example occurs during the journey.
A must for children waiting for public bus or the school bus is to wait at the bus stop, and stand clear from the road. When you hail the bus, make sure you concentrate on the bus you want and do this from a safe distance away. When you get off a bus, you should not tarry at the exit and leave the bus quickly.
You should never run in front of the bus to cross the road, but wait until you have an opportunity to cross at the back of the bus. Traffic safety however is best at a pedestrian crossing so that you are most visible to cars, and where you have a good view of the road.
Never assume that either buses or cars see you whilst crossing the road. If you need to cross whilst there are vehicles, you should ensure the vehicles slow to a stop before crossing in front of them.
