Child Safety Seat - Changes to Car Restraint Legislation

There is a planned changed expected to Child Safety Seat or Car Restraint Legislation (more information). Now, Perth and WA drivers are expected by law to ensure all passengers are restrained in an approved child restraint or seat belt (see Child Road Safety: Children Banned from Car Front Seats)

From Early 2010, Child Safety Seats for children up to 6 months of age must be rearward facing or have the child placed in a safety capsule. Child safety seats need to have an inbuilt harness for children aged 6 months to 4 years old. Children aged 4 to 7 years old need to be seated in a booster seat.

Please note that children who exceed the maximum weight and size limitations of the child safety seat may use the restraint appropriate for the next age group. Approved child safety seats are those certified to compy with the AS/NZS 1754 and must be correctly fitted and used.
