Child Safety in the Bath

Child safety in the bath is about water temperature, not leaving children unsupervised to drawn, and to ensure that children do not fall either in or around the bath.

In my parent survey done Q1 2010, all parent respondents were keen to ensure bath water temperature does not burn or scald children. More than 70% were very keen to be able to control and monitor water temperature, and can do so using simple bath water temperature gauges. Another way to do this is to ensure the mains water heater does not go above 60 degrees centigrade.

Child safety in the bath is mostly about not leaving children unsupervised in the bath. It doesn’t take too much to slip in the bath, and little children find it hard to get their feet under them with the foam, the slipperiness, and especially if there are too many toys or other clutter in the bath. Even baby seats designed to fit onto the tub can lose suction and come free, and when they do, they’ll trap children in a sitting position under water. So such bath seats cannot guarantee your child’s safety in the bath.

Lastly, the water in and around the bath along with the slippery surface makes for spectacular falls. Children must not stand, walk, or climb when taking baths. They should sit or may lie down if the water level allows for it.
